Kenneth MacKenzie

Managing Partner

Chartered Accountant with 40 years of business leadership experience, last thirteen in healthcare. Founder of Kames Target Healthcare Fund and Target Healthcare REIT each of which are long term income funds with conservative and profitable track records and Target Advisers the premier niche senior living fund managers in the UK.  In 2005, he led the acquisition of Independent Living Services (ILS), Scotland’s largest independent domiciliary care provider. Kenneth grew this business by acquisition and put in place a new senior management team before exiting via a disposal to a private equity house. Prior to his involvement with ILS, Kenneth negotiated the proposed acquisition of a large UK independent living business in a JV with the large US care home operator, Sunrise Senior Living, as they looked to enter the UK. Preceding his involvement in the healthcare sector, Kenneth has owned businesses in the publishing, IT, shipping and accountancy sectors and he holds a number of pro-bono charitable roles.

John Flannelly

Investment Partner

Chartered Accountant with 19 years’ experience, last ten in real estate investment management. Investment Partner at Target Advisers since inception in 2010 with primary responsibility for all investment activity for the Kames Target Healthcare Fund and Target Healthcare REIT. John has been involved in the appraisal of several hundred care home opportunities resulting in the acquisition of c.50 properties for those client Funds.  Prior to joining Target, John held board positions at a UK top-10 care home operator and a care home development business during his time as investment director for an institutional investor. John started his career at Arthur Andersen where he worked on audits, financial due diligence and corporate finance projects before moving to the Bank of Scotland initially to structure finance packages for management buy-outs and latterly to a role in real estate investment management.

Andrew Brown

Healthcare Partner

Andrew has spent most of his life in the senior care sector, currently visiting c.100 homes per year in his current role as Healthcare Partner at Target, of which he is one of the founding partners. Previously to Target he and his family developed one of the largest and most unique continuing care retirement communities in the UK, Auchlochan Trust. Andrew has played the role of developer, builder and operator of care homes resulting in a community of c.350 care beds, c.100 retirement properties and a staff of >300. These facilities included both residential care homes and nursing homes and Andrew was directly responsible for operations. Auchlochan was also involved in Trinity Care plc as an investor.

Donald Campbell

Portfolio Partner

Donald is a Chartered Accountant with 28 years experience. He was a partner with Deloitte LLP for 16 years specialising in private markets tax advisory work, where his clients included care home operators, property investors and fund managers. Donald’s role at Target involves reviewing monthly financial performance data provided by the operators to ensure compliance with the lease terms. He is also responsible for reporting financial information and KPIs on a quarterly basis to our funds' boards.

Ross Clarke

Portfolio Manager

Ross is a graduate of the University of St. Andrews and a Chartered Accountant.  He qualified with KPMG LLP in 2015 having completed his graduate scheme in assurance before spending 12 months in Corporate Finance M&A.  Ross has experience in a variety of sectors including healthcare, public sector, financial services, and middle markets.  He joined Target in 2016 and supports the Portfolio Partner in delivering a full package of portfolio analysis and reporting.

Portfolio and Support Services Director

Amanda joined Target in 2010 and manages the back office function of the company. She has extensive experience in office services, finance and administration management. Having gained her qualifications in Business and Finance, Amanda has worked in the Education, Engineering and Marketing Services sectors.

Rob Scholes

Investment Director

Rob has over ten years' investment and corporate finance experience. Having completed the Bank of Scotland's Graduate Programme, Rob spent six years in the bank's private equity division structuring and transacting debt and equity funding to support management buy-outs and corporate acquisitions. He subsequently worked at mid-market private equity firm, Caird Capital, with responsibility across six portfolio investments operating in a variety of sectors. At Target, Rob is responsible for the appraisal and completion of new investment opportunities.

David Robinson

Investment Director

David is a Chartered Accountant with experience in a broad range of property investment and corporate finance environments. After completing his CA training with Deloitte, he worked with their due diligence team for six years, specialising in real estate and financial services transactions throughout the UK and Europe. He then joined Bank of Scotland, managing equity investments and structuring transactions in a portfolio across a number of real estate sectors including healthcare. Following a period in the energy sector working in regulatory finance and in development land acquisitions, David joined Target in 2013. David is responsible for appraisal and completion of new investment opportunities.

Tim Kay

Investment Director

Tim is a Chartered Accountant. He qualified at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2000 and spent the following 5 years in their transactions team assisting private equity and corporate clients on planning and implementation of corporate acquisitions.  He joined the Bank of Scotland in 2006 and was responsible for managing equity investments in a variety of real estate companies with a principal focus on providing further investment and delivering successful exits. In 2009 Tim joined Lloyds Banking Group’s real estate debt restructuring team and more recently was part of the team that launched Scottish Widow’s long term Commercial Real Estate debt proposition. Tim joined Target in 2016 and is responsible for appraising and completing new investment opportunities.

Kim Liddell

Personal Assistant

Kim is an experienced PA who has over 20 years’ experience working in various office administration roles within the private sector. Before joining Target Kim worked with Stewart Milne Construction for 8 years, and spent the last 2 years assisting the senior management team on the company restructuring in Scotland. Kim is Personal Assistant to the Managing Partner at Target and provides administrative support across the company.


Gordon Bland

Finance Director

A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Gordon is a Chartered Accountant and has extensive experience of financial reporting and control in the asset management industry. Prior to joining Target, he worked within the audit and assurance group at PricewaterhouseCoopers for almost ten years, including two years in their Toronto office, working with clients such as SWIP, Scottish Widows, Lloyds Banking Group, Gartmore, Baillie Gifford and Schroders. At Target, Gordon is responsible for the operation of the firm’s finance department.

Laura Gillespie

Finance Manager

Laura is an experienced Finance Manager, who graduated at Strathclyde University with BA Accountancy and Law degree in 1996. She commenced her career with BDO Stoyhayward and worked for Robertson Capital Projects (RCP), a project management and investment company responsible for developing long term partnerships providing public sector education, health, housing, social care and community based infrastructure contracts for over 11 years. Prior to working with RCP, Laura was both Group financial and management accountant within the Oil and Gas sector. At Target Laura supports the finance director and has a particular interest in forecasting and financial modelling.

A mathematics graduate of the University of Glasgow, David joined Target in late 2013. He is principally involved in providing support to the Finance Director as well as assisting in a variety of back office functions, including book-keeping and administration.

Billy Rew

Healthcare Director

Billy has over 30 years’ experience constructing specialist properties for the elderly. Before joining Target, he was founder and managing director of Oakfield Construction and of Westoun Development, both firms specialised in constructing bespoke retirement homes. At Target, Billy applies his knowledge and experience in the healthcare property sector to assess development opportunities and advise the board on financial and operational risk.

Gillian Fairbairn

Healthcare Associate

Having worked in the financial sector for 10 years, Gillian joined Target in 2016 as a healthcare associate. Her main responsibility is to prepare and analyse demographic, planning and healthcare sector data.

Gillian graduated from the University of Stirling with a BAcc, then went on to do an MPhil in Finance, on completion she began working towards a PhD in Accounting. 


Robyn Gray

Healthcare Associate

Robyn joined Target in 2016 as a Healthcare Associate. Having graduated from the University of Dundee’s School of Life Sciences in 2014, Robyn then worked in the Financial Services sector specialising in Life, Pensions and Insurance.  At Target, Robyn provides comprehensive administrative support to the Healthcare team in terms of collating, analysing and reporting on sector information.

Katy joined Target in 2016 and provides comprehensive administrative support across the company. Having worked in administration positions across a number of sectors, Katy has a wealth of knowledge and experience in process and best practice.


Angela MacKenzie

Marketing and Media

Angela graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in music and is currently undertaking a Masters with Biola University. She has an extensive marketing and media background having presented her own television programmes,  led the direct sales and marketing of a TV station and been active in the real estate sector.  Angela uses her wide-ranging experience to assist Target Advisers in its marketing strategy.

Sarah Bowe

Compliance Officer

Sarah is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years experience of the compliance and regulatory environment in the UK.  During that period, she has spent time at both the Securities and Futures Authority and Financial Services Authority.  She has worked in the real estate investment sector for over 10 years as compliance officer at both DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield.  At Target, Sarah is responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant FCA rules and regulations.
